Today on ABC 774, Rod Sims the Chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) Chairman said that the closure of Hazelwood has meant electricity prices have shot up.
“I mean four generators control 90 per cent of the market so with the Hazelwood closure um as soon as Hazelwood closes prices just shot up…” – Rod Sims, ACCC
In the 2015 Victorian Budget, Daniel Andrews taxed Hazelwood out of existence with a 200% increase in taxes on coal, yet he denied this would impact prices.
Attributable to Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources, David Southwick:
This is more proof that Daniel Andrews is to blame for the recent hike in electricity bills.
Daniel Andrews has an ideological plan to shut down coal and therefore higher energy bills. We have a plan for a sensible balance and more affordable prices.
Hazelwood closed because Daniel Andrews taxed it out of existence, then he denied it would hurt Victorians.
Hard working Victorians shouldn’t have to sacrifice putting food on the table, just to keep the power on.
