In 2015 Daniel Andrews softened youth bail laws but now his government is blaming others for the consequences of their decision.
Comments this morning from Police Minister, Lisa Neville, criticising a decision of the Children’s Court to grant bail to a 17-year old male accused of violently assaulting a police officer on duty, are unbelievable hypocrisy given it’s the very result the Andrews Labor Government wanted when it weakened bail laws over two years ago.
No one should forget that it was Daniel Andrews who said in 2015 that we had too many young offenders on remand and that his Government thought it appropriate to make it easier for young violent thugs to get bail.
Well, Daniel Andrews and Lisa Neville got what they wanted.
Now that the very outcomes we warned about have come to pass, Lisa Neville and Daniel Andrews shouldn’t be criticising the decision they wanted, they should be apologising to the victim and the Victorian people for what has happened.
At the next election, Victorians will have a choice between the Liberal Nationals tough law and order policies like mandatory minimum sentencing and tougher bail and parole laws, or more of the same excuse-making from Daniel Andrews.
