Wooldridge: Liberal Nationals to provide free flu vaccinations for Victorian children

Shadow Minister for Health, Mary Wooldridge, today announced that a Liberal Nationals Government will provide up to $7 million over four years for free voluntary flu vaccinations for all Victorian children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years old.

Influenza is a deadly disease, with thousands of Victorians suffering from it every year. Tragically flu takes the lives of many elderly people as well as otherwise healthy young children who can be particularly vulnerable to the illness.

Many parents do not have their children vaccinated against the flu, because of the cost of or concerns about the vaccine. Funding the vaccine for young children will provide a strong incentive and clear message that the safety and wellbeing of their children is paramount and flu vaccinations are recommended.

Daniel Andrews just wants to pass the buck to the Federal Government while the Liberal Nationals will take action to protect our youngest children.

Quotes attributable to Shadow minister for Health Mary Wooldridge:

A Liberal Nationals Government wants to help protect our youngest citizens so will fund free vaccinations for all children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years old.

This commitment should give parents the confidence that the flu vaccination is a safe and an effective way to protect their children.

Quotes attributable to Liberal Candidate for Prahran, Dr Katie Allen:

Flu vaccines need to be accessible to Victorians in need, far too many young Victorian children suffer what can often be an avoidable infection.

We need to do all we can to help young children to be properly protected during flu seasons like we’ve experienced this year.
